Donating books to charities
I'm wondering if there is a charity that I can donate these books to that will give them to kids who can't afford education in other countries or something...Does anyone know of one? I have A LOT of books to donate.
Donating books to charities for children - answer.
There are plenty of kids in this country who don't have many books. How much they'd want old ones is debatable, however. If you, who presumably love books, want to get rid of these, why would someone who hasn't had much experience with books and may not like them much want these books?
Two problems with sending them overseas.
1. High cost of shipping them
2. Ability to read English
Although I don't think the fact they are in English is a problem, that shipping could be a problem. Many churches have members who regularly go abroad on missions & they are seeking items to distribute. However, I don't know if you are prepared to sponsor the overseas shipping cost to have your books distributed. If not, you could always donate them to a charity thrift shop. You would receive satisfaction + a small tax deduction, the charity would make a little money, & folks who want the books for their children would find them affordable.
Example donating books to charities in Melbourne.
Any charity will take them but if you want do something really cool with your books go to the link below and send them on a journey!
Basically you are donating the book to the cosmos, leave it somewhere but put a tracking number on it so you can track it online throughout its journeys around the world!
Its brilliant, you can donate them after you have tagged them or, like I did leave some in a park and others I hid and listed on the page where they were hidden and within 5 days they were gone.
