Donating books to charities
Some charity stores have become thrift stores for people of normal income. Try taking your books to a public library. You can also ask some locals, because there are likely to be some nationally-accredited charities doing pick-ups in your area. Most of people like donating books to charities like the Arc this way, and we didn't have to even step outside door.
In community, there are several places to donate books. There are (nonprofit, church-affiliated) preschools and church nurseries who welcome all children's books. Kindergarten and first grade teachers love additions to their "classroom library." The chapter books are very well received at elementary school libraries (or teacher classrooms), and adult books are donated to the public library where they are either tagged & shelved, or sold at the "Friends of the Library" sale which raises money for the library.
In the US, there is no reason for a book to go to the landfill, ever. At the very least, you could sell it on Amazon & donate the proceeds.
There are Literacy Associations in our area where we can donate books to charities. These are associations whose mission it is to help individuals to learn to read and write, it is staffed by volunteers. Outside there are many who cannot read in spite of all the free schools so they need us to donate a books to charities.
Donating books to charities really can help our community. We really can't put too much emphasis on the importance of reading. This is one of the first academic skills we teach to our children. Even before they enter pre-school or kindergarten, we read stories to them as a form of entertainment. This is a wonderful way to get your child involved with reading books early on. The more they hear and enjoy, the more likely they'll catch onto reading themselves and enjoy sitting down with a good book. I've noticed that public schools now follow a system involving book reading at different levels. Books are labeled with letters of the alphabet, which reveals their level of difficulty. In all honesty, they never had anything like this when I was a child, but I sure do like it! So let’s donating books to charities. Yeah !! keep up the good work.
